Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga brings an intense new chapter to the Mad Max universe, with an all cast led by Anya Taylor-Joy in the title role, alongside Chris Hemsworth. Directed by George Miller, who returns to the helm after his success with Mad Max: Fury Road.
Furiosa is one of the most expensive films in the Mad Max series. Including an estimated $100 million spent on marketing, the total production costs make it a high-stakes release for Warner Bros. However, its box office performance has been below expectations.

Story
Furiosa follows the journey of the titular character, a young woman who is abducted from her peaceful tribe and thrust into a war-torn wasteland. The movie explores her rise to power as she navigates deadly warlords, including Dementus, played by Chris Hemsworth, and Immortan Joe, a tyrannical leader who rules over the wasteland.
The story delves deep into the brutal survival strategies that Furiosa must employ, forming alliances with rebel factions along the way. In her quest for freedom and vengeance, she begins to embrace her destiny as one of the fiercest warriors in the Mad Max universe.
Box Office
The box office numbers for Furiosa have been underwhelming, with the film opening to a modest $26.3 million domestically over its first three days. As of June 2024, the worldwide total stands at approximately $150 million, far short of the $350 million needed for the movie to break even.
Despite low initial earnings, there has been some hope from advance bookings in countries like China, which could push the global box office numbers higher. However, based on current trends, the film's total earnings may not be enough to cover its hefty production costs, putting its future profitability in doubt.
